Building the Future at Shakers & Makers

At the heart of Shakers & Makers is a strong sense of creativity, uniqueness and craftsmanship. Like many creative businesses, the Covid era brought both challenges and clarity, inspiring us to reimagine how and where we work.

Driven by our ongoing passion for design and handmade quality—but faced with rising operational costs in London—we made the bold decision to relocate from Hackney’s urban jungle to a larger warehouse in Spain and a new pottery in Central America. This move wasn’t just about change; it was about opportunity.

Our vision is now becoming reality with the construction of a new, purpose-built 2,000 sq. ft. pottery studio dedicated to our ceramic production. From this site, we’re able to reduce manufacturing costs, create skilled local employment, and produce our signature mugs and serve ware in a more sustainable way. Costa Rica’s electricity grid is already over 85% renewable, allowing us to significantly lower the environmental footprint of what is traditionally an energy-intensive process.

Meanwhile, our expanded European warehouse allows us to maintain efficient logistics and storage, ensuring we can continue to offer our growing range of handcrafted products at competitive prices—without additional shipping costs to our customers. This also means borderless, fast delivery across Europe, with no customs fees or import taxes for EU customers. In fact, we’re proud to have maintained UK shipping rates, reduced shipping rates to Europe and the United States, improving both accessibility and value.

We continue to operate a small studio in the UK, where our team focuses on designing and producing limited-run, high-end custom pieces for clients around the world. This dedicated creative space allows us to stay close to our roots in British craftsmanship while collaborating globally on bespoke projects.

By combining sustainable production, community impact, and creative innovation, Shakers & Makers is shaping a new chapter in artisan manufacturing—where craftsmanship and conscious business go hand in hand.
